Where Was Shawshank Redemption Filmed

Where was Shawshank Redemption filmed. This Stephen King movie was legendary. A story of two prisoner (Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins) who develop a bond over a number of years, finding solace and finally  redemption through acts of compassion touches everyones heart. Though the locations themselves are not all breathtaking, for the movie fan there is good reason to visit these spots on a vacation.

Shawshank Redemption Filming Locations

The prison -Mansfield Reformatory, Ohio, USA

Virgin Islands, USA – The final scene. This is where Red (Morgan Freeman) is walking along a the blue water beach to meet his friend Andy, played by Tim Robbins. Exact location is St Croix’s Sandy Point in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Other places where scenes were filmed include Upper Sandusky, Ohio, USA (Mill and Courtroom), Yuma  Arizona, Butler Ohio (ural town of “Buxton” where “Red” goes); but not necessarily great vacation destinations.
