The largest one of all Tonga islands, Tongatapu is a superb holiday destination since there is lots to see and do for all sorts of travelers.
Nuku’alofa is the capital of Tongatapu and most of the necessary facilities are established there (hotels, restaurants, shops etc). Nuku’alofa sites worth visiting include the Royal Palace and Talamahu market. In the market, you can explore the diversity of local foods, also purchase some handcrafts and clothing and test your bargaining skills. Only few of the small surrounding islands of Tongatapu are inhabited. Fafa island is a great destination for swimming and snorkeling and is one of the few where accommodation facilities have been established.
