One of the first things the visitors of the city should go to is the Parliament Buildings in the Parliament Hill, built in 1859.

Those, who are interested in the architecture, should also go to the Notre Dame Basilica (a stunning gothic cathedral) and visit both not only interior of the building but pay attention to the exterior of it as well.
There is lots of large-scale museums in Ottawa: the Canadian War Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature, Canadian Museum of Contemporary photography and others. The most visited, however, is the Canadian museum of Civilization.
Art lovers are advised to visit the National Gallery of Canada and National Arts Center The last one is also home of the National Arts Center Orchestra, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Lyra Ottawa. Good quality theatre performances can be seen in the Great Canadian Theatre Company or the Ottawa Little Theatre.
Speaking of outdoor activities, the Major’s Hill Park should be mentioned as it is a beautiful park near the Ottawa River, several museums and churches are also rather close to the park. Ottawa River Parkway provides excellent walking and biking trails.
The nightlife in Ottawa is always vibrant – there you will find great comedy clubs (e.g. Absolute Comedy Ottawa or Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club), restaurants and pubs. Lots of possibilities for shop-a-colics as well, like ByWard Market, the Rideau Center or the Sparks Street Mall which is an outdoor pedestrian’s mall.
Ottawa is full of places to visit and it is always not just an entertainment as the city has preserved its historical heritage so well that it is still present even nowadays when Ottawa has become a great and modern city.
