Tower of London History
Serving triple roles of palace, prison and fortress as the decades shifted and built by William the Conqueror in the early 1080′s, it’s today a museum of sorts where you can witness the crown jewels on display, including one of the world’s infamous diamonds, the Koh-i-Noor of Indian origin. Many a head rolled back in the day when the Tower served as prison. Inmates include now-famous people like Anne Boleyn, Sir Thomas More, Guy Fawkes and Edward V. From instruments of torture in Lower Wakefield Tower and Henry VIII’s armor to the Traitors Gate, the ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ and the Ravens, there’s a wealth of sights to soak up here at the Tower of London.
