How to get to the Pyramids of Giza

You can get there by car, bike or bus. It can get hot, so dress light and take sunscreen. Also, have cash ready at hand to buy water and snacks along your route and take plenty of photos. Good running shoes are a great choice for this semi-rugged terrain.

The Pyramids of Giza – History & Details

The three main Pyramids that comprise the ones at Giza were constructed during the time of the pharaohs, specifically in the 4th Dynasty (circa 2550 B.C). Originally intended to act as tombs for the Kings and Queens who ruled Egypt, the pyramids were said to be portals to the Spirit world where the royal souls can find solace. The really powerful rulers were interred as mummies in coffins so intricately decorated and heavy with gold. Not only that, they had millions of dollars worth of treasure hoarded with them to, well, take to the afterlife.

The four sides of the pyramid are constructed literally perfectly. They face the four cardinal directions (North, South, East and West) with an unprecedented degree of exactness. This is considered impossible then because they didn’t have any electricity let alone technology to help them achieve this. Then there are the less well known pyramids to consider of which there are 93.

The detail is the biggest stunner. The architecture inside the pyramids will wow you beyond belief. There are chambers upon chambers, pathways, crawlspaces, manual elevator shafts, and much more. There’s no clutter in their design, but a straightforward sense of purpose, each addition playing a distinct role.

The main tomb inside which the ruler’s gilded coffin resides has air holes that lead out. These are so tiny, they’re almost non-existent, but your tour guide will help you find them. Cool thing is one of the air holes in one of the pyramids points exactly to the star constellation of Orion, which is again impossible for the builders to have achieved with such precision in that time.

The pyramids themselves have their own names and wholesome histories. Their names include Khafre, Menkaure, Khufu, Mycerinus, Chepren, Cheops and several others. There is a literal wealth of history and culture for you to soak up and the best way to do that is to stand before the Giza pyramids, place a palm on their ageless limestone faces and feel the weight of time. Add to that the knowledge you’ll learn here, and you’ll be transported back to the time of the mighty pharaohs.

Perhaps you’ll learn one of thousands of secrets here. Perhaps you’ll uncover mysteries you never would’ve thought possible. It all depends on one thing. Are you going to pay the Giza pyramids a visit and find out?
