Among the several shipwrecks that lie in the waters of Barbados and that have become a popular destination for the divers, Stavronikita is probably the most popular one.
The Greek freighter, built in the 1950′s, used to be 365 feet long. In 1976, Stavronikita caught fire, an explosion occurred and the ship was sent to Barbados where it is located till today. Nowadays, Stavronikita is slowly overgrowing with corals and sponges. Turtles and various fish species swim around the wreck. Stavronikita is perhaps one of the most exciting diving spots in Barbados.
