Shringeri Sharadamba Temple, Karnataka, India
Shringeri or Sringeri is a small town in the district of Chikmagalur in Karnataka, India. Sringeri is located on the banks of river Tunga. The name Sringeri comes from a nearby hill called Shringa Giri Hills. Sringeri was discovered by Sri Sankaracharya. This town is home to numerous temples. One of the most famous temples is Sri Sharadamba temple. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Sharadamba, the Goddess of learning. As a ritual Lunch and Dinner is served to all visitors throughout the year.
How to get to Shringeri Sharadamba Temple
Mangalore International Airport is the closest airport to Shringeri. It’s about 100 kms from Shringeri town. You could also get there by train. You will have to reach Udupi and take a train from Udupi to Chikmagalur. Buses are available from Chikmagalur, Mangalore, Bangalore, and Udupi to Shringeri.
Shringeri Sharadamba Temple Festival
The most important festival held in Shringeri is Navaratri. Special poojas are carried out at Sharadamba Temple for 9 days. A traditional parade takes place in the temple. Temple is open throughout the year and the town is thronged with devotees during festival time. Best time to visit the temple is between October and April.
