The Lighthouse of Port Said is yet another attraction of the city. Located in front of the Suez Canal, the lighthouse is the oldest building remnants in the city. It was the first structure in the world built with reinforced concrete.

It was built in the shape of Pharaonic obelisk, which is enfolded with grey granite. You can also find the Museum of Modern Art in Egypt at the base of the Memorial. The museum is home to numerous contemporary paintings and ceramics created by Egyptian artists. Downtown Port Said is the best place for shopping t-shirts, jeans and other outfits at cheaper places. Gomhoria Street and Noras Beach Shopping Arcade are two popular shopping destinations. Shops accept US dollars and Euros and bargaining is more than acceptable. Street vendors showcase their stuff near the port. The most popular item is the golden cartouche. You can have your name engraved in hieroglyphs. Other things that you can buy include gold and silver jewelry, carpets, copper and brass metals and of course cotton goods. The city is home to numerous restaurants, serving a range of cuisines. You can find many cheap and good fruit bars throughout the city.
Lake Manzala in Port Said is very famous among tourists. In winter, you can spot pelicans, herons, spoonbills and flamingos. The natural beauty of this place attracts locals and tourists alike.

El Abbasy Mosque and the Latin Cathedral are some other important tourist attractions in the city. The Latin Cathedral is a magnificent Church constructed in 1934.
How to Reach Port Said
The best way to reach Port Said is flying in to El Gamil Airport, which is located 6 km from the center of the city. Buses are available from Cairo to Port Said daily. Frequent trains are also available from Ramses Station in Cairo to the city. From Cairo, you can even take a car. It takes around 3 hours to reach Port Said.
