The museum rests inside three different buildings: The Slave Kitchen, the Lofthouse, and the Marlborough Arms, each of the buildings being at least 100 years old, although the museum opened its doors in 1998. You will meet a man dressed as a pirate at the entrance of the museum, and he plays his part well, setting the mood nicely. The tour of the museum is self-guided, with true or false facts sprinkled throughout the exhibits, so you go at your own pace. There is also a gift shop to purchase souvenirs.
