Patagonia, the southern tip of South America is shared by Chile and Argentina. Chile is the longest country in the world which covers an area of about 4,000 km from north to south but a thin strip of land where the widest area is only 240 km. At its East lies the Andes Mountains and west the Pacific Ocean.
Chile’s most famous area is the Chilean Patagonia which is among the most spectacular landscapes in the world. A collection of islands, icebergs, glaciers and mountains; Chilean Patagonia is made of two sub-regions; the northern Aisen and, to its south, Magallanes; isolated from the rest of Chile by extreme weather and mountain ranges.
Some of the remarkable sights of this region are; Torres del Paine a spectacular mountain range, surrounded by Torres del Paine National Park. It is in Chile’s southern hemisphere and one of the most impressive sights. It has got world’s best trekking routes.
Punta Arenas, the isolated city of Magellanes in southern Patagonia is always busy with tourists either taking Antarctic Cruise or visiting the Torres del Paine National Park. Other interesting places to see are Plaza Muñoz Gamero, the City Cemetery, the Plaza Muñoz Gamero, and the Sara Braun Palace and Braun Menendez dwelling a preserved treasure of city’s wealth.
Puerto Natales, the city where you can experience the real Patagonian life; has cosmopolitan influence as there are a wide number of Scottish and German settlers. It is only an hour drive to the Park.
Other remarkable locations include Cape Horn, Tierra Del Fuego Island, the hypnotic waterfalls of Salto Chico and Salto Grande, and the Verde and Azul lagoons and many more. It also comprises of the Antarctic Territory claimed by Chile.
Chilean Patagonia is also famous for one of the world’s spectacular adventure races – the ”Patagonian Expedition Race”.
Best Time to Visit Patagonia
Days are hotter between November and March and cooler between June and September. March is one of the best times to visit Patagonia.
