Gorno Badakhshan is one of the noteworthy places to visit in the Pamir Mountains. Located in the eastern part of Tajikistan, the region is bordered by China, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. You get to see some beautiful landscapes and the highest mountain in the world.
Bartang Valley is one of the most spectacular places in the western Pamirs. The Valley offers ample opportunities for enjoying adventurous activities. The village of Khidjef in the valley offers various hiking routes. Basid is another village located 50 kms away from the valley. It is home to two important shrines and scenic forests.
Murgab - Though Murgab does not offer any remarkable sightseeing opportunities, it is an excellent place to explore the eastern Pamirs Mountains. Madian valley and a hot spring are located just 40 kms away from Murgab. Shaimak village in this town located near the Chinese border offers stunning views of Pamir.
Khorog is the capital of Gorno Badakhshan region. The road connecting Gorno Badakhshan and Pamirs with Russia was once a part of ancient Silk Road, which was used to carry away the rubies extracted in the mountains. Silk Road jeep tours are available here.
Shokh Dara Valley is located 34 kms from Khorog. You can enjoy scenic landscapes by going for a day long walk from Vrang to Durum Kul in this valley. Javshanguz is another important place to visit here. It has an enticing trekking route.
Pamir National Park includes some parts of the Pamirs Mountains. It boasts of a mixture of grasslands, desert, steppe and alpine. It is home to a range of animal species, including Marco Polo Sheep, snow leopard, brown bear, brown headed gulls, markhor and bar headed geese.
Pamir Botanical Garden - You can see an array of plant species in this botanical garden, including Apricot, Mulberry, plum, cherry, pear, apple, blackberry, strawberry and raspberry. Vegetables like cabbages, cucumbers, potatoes and tomatoes also grow well here.
