Manaus is the place to go in Brazil if you want to experience the local culture, a great beach and wilderness of the Amazon all in one place. Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas (derived from Brazilian Amazon rainforest that occupies a vast majority of the state) and your hub to do anything in the Amazon.
If you plan to go trekking in the Amazon forest, stay in a jungle resort or go on a cruise on the Amazon, Manaus is your point of entry. Many cruises leave from the river docks every day to see the Meeting of the Waters (where the black water of River Negro meets with the muddy waters of River Solimoes and flow side by side without mixing). Many tours and safari to the Amazon forests are organized from Manaus.
Ponta Negra Beach
Ponta Negra is an upmarket area in Manaus with a beautiful coastal line lined up with villas, luxury apartments, hotels and resorts. Many of the local celebrities live here. Since this is only 20 kms from core Manaus city, the beach does get crowed at times. There are private beach area that are reserved for resorts.
Other beaches are: Tupé Beach approximately 34 km from Manaus and Moon Beach on Negro River 23 km (14 mi) from Manaus (can be accessed only by boat)
