Khao Phing Kan, Thailand
As the cinema and movies have started to occupy bigger and bigger part of our spare time and it has been seen as one of the greatest ways of amusement and simply having a good time, no wonder that film tourism starts to experience rapid increase in its popularity.
Nowadays people do want to only watch the movie, for some people it is way more than just that. Certain part of them tends to broaden the experience by going to the sites where some particular scenes of their favorite movies have actually been shot. It is the fact that their favorite actors have been there and good memories connected to a particular film, too, that makes people want to go to these kind of places and obtain a sense that they can feel and relate themselves to the film, which used to be just two dimensional but thanks to the film tourism has gained the third and four dimension as well.
Khao Phing Kan in Thailand is not only a resplendent and beautiful area full of natural wonders to enjoy but as well it is now incredibly famous for one simple reason – some scenes of James Bond movie The Man With The Golden Gun were taken right there and therefore the island got its second name – James Bond Island.
The history of the island is not too rich. In fact, before 1974, the year when the movie was shot, Khao Phing was neither densely inhabited nor tourists knew about this place and one can even say that no one simply cared to pay particular attention to the island before. For good or worse, the place was chosen for James Bond movie, and it completely turned around the image and economical activity of the island. Suddenly thousands of tourists started to strive to see the beautiful sites on their own.
It is worth knowing that it is not only one island that can be seen in the movie. Actually it includes Khao Phing Kan with its stunningly gorgeous Phang Nga Bay and Ko Tapu, which is well-known for its strangely-shaped limestone rocks. In fact, the movie was just a reason for visitors to discover the place, it was as remarkable before the movie had been shot as it is now and hopefully it will remain that way for many hundreds of years ahead.
The fact that James Bond has been filmed there of course can be a great reason to visit the islands yet the nature itself is rather amazing. The beaches are quite nice and there are two caves to be visited (NB! The tides of the ocean sometimes flood the caves it is possible to visit them only when the tide level is low enough). However, prior heading to the destination keep in mind that you are going to be asked to pay special tax. Other than that, it is up to you whether you want to take a guided tour around the sites or explore them on your own.
