According to the legend of the locals, the mountain’s deiti fell in love with the goddess Samo. He wanted to give her a mirror, made out of clouds and wind as a proof of his feelings. However, the devil appeared to ruin this, making Samo break the mirror. As it broke down into 108 pieces, each piece fell on Earth, becoming one lake of the valley.
An airport has been built near the scenic area, so it is possible to get there via flight from Chengdu, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Kunming and other cities. Also buses from Xinnanmen and Chengdu Chadianzi coach stations arrive on daily basis and many other buses from nearby towns.
Nowadays, the magnificent area has become more tourist-friendly. The visitors of the valley are now offered to have a guided off-the-beaten-track hiking tour.
