Huanglong – Among Most Scenic Places In China
#4 in Best Places to Visit in China - Huanglong is a colorful and stunning region in north-west Sichuan province, China. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 Huanglong showcases amazing scenery with snow-capped mountains, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, forests and endangered species, like the giant panda and the Sichuan snub-nosed money that live there, are the reasons why some people call Huanglong “The Fairy Land on Earth”.
Huanglong National Park
Huanglong is very famous for its calcium deposits that create patterns stretching through the forests and mountains. Limestone deposits make the ponds look golden, leaving also an impression of a golden dragon that crawls through the forests. For this reason the valley is called Huanglong- “Yellow Dragon Valley”.
Numerous wonderful sites will catch your eye immediately. Some of the most stunning ones are Feipuliuhui waterfall, XishenCave, Penjing Ponds, Huanglong Temple, Shitazhenhai and Zhuanhua Pond. The Shiatzenhai is probably the most impressive attraction of this marvellous landscape.
Because of the calcium deposits the water of the pond glows in numerous colors, and it never stops welling up. Shiantzenhai in Chinese means “whirling flower” and that is because the water is constantly welling, so a flower, if thrown into the pond, with swirl with the flow.
The Muni Valley forms main part of the whole scenic area and there you will find China’s biggest calcified waterfall- the Zhaga waterfall. The Erdao Lake n the northern part of the valley is the largest one in the area and is connected with others with numerous underground limestone caves.
There are a lot of objects in the Scenic and Historic Area of Huanglong, but, honestly, there are probably no words that could sufficiently describe the feeling when you see all the magic sites, that seem like miracles of nature that we are used to see only in fairy tale movies.
