Ranked #5 in Germany Tourism
The Holsten Gate (Holstentor) is the best-known building in the city of Lubeck and it is also among the most famous German buildings.
Constructed in the 15th century, the Holsten Gate was built thanks to the donations of the wealthy merchants. The gate had not only protective functions since its towers rapidly became a great symbol of the well-being and freedom of Lubeck. Today, the Holstentor is kindly open to the public. A museum has been established in the premises of the building the visitors of which are offered to take a look at some exhibits from the past – medieval armor, weapons, ship models, instruments and other interesting relics from the past.
