Hoan Kiem Lake Attractions

Once a marshy lagoon, Hoan Kiem Lake is today a thriving attraction where aside from learning up on a sensational but true past about the lake itself, you’ll also get to see some amazing Asian soft-shelled giant turtles (the freshwater kind). The name of Hoan Kiem means ‘the lake of the returned sword’ which is related to the local legend of a Vietnamese emperor who received a sword from a giant turtle living in the lake. A temple nearby adds to the appeal wherein you’re certain to learn more about the location and the lake.  Modernity has rooted itself quite strongly here and, as such, you can expect plenty of nice dining and shopping experiences close by.
