Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg Russia is one of the oldest and also the largest in the world. Its more than three million collections of arts and artifacts beats any other. The collections consist of ancient works, Egyptian, Greek and Roam arts, archaeological findings and many many more. The Hermitage Museum has around 365 rooms in the Main Museum Complex which in turn comprises of six buildings. The buildings itself is a wonderful architectural monument.

The Winter Palace of Peter the Great is of great importance. The huge three- storied building with its fine ornamentation would startle any visitor. Russian historical events are always connected with winter palace and its people Formerly the collections were all displayed in The Small Hermitage. Now there is The Old Hermitage or Large Hermitage and The New Hermitage. Well all this must sound a little confusing. Not to worry, here is more detail.
The New Hermitage was the first building in Russia specially constructed to house the art collections of the Museum. The building is well arranged with statues representing famous artists, architects and sculptors from olden ages. These are not completely opened for the public.
The Hermitage Theatre was built between 1783 and 1787. It was official residence of Peter the great. The view of The hermitage Theatre with the hermitage bridge on both sides of the winter canal is breathtaking. There is no doubt The hermitage Museum is a place worth visiting taking your own time as it is so vast.

The entrance ticket can be booked online (click here). The entrance ticket for foreign tourists is much high compared to the fee paid by Russians. However, the entrance is free on the first Thursday of every month for all visitors and free for students and children daily. Hermitage Museum is closed on Mondays.
The museum has got shops, internet facility and coffee shops to relax for the hours you will spend inside. There are some rules to be followed while visiting the museum for security reasons, which they will explain before entry. So make sure you look for them while you are there.
