Hearst Castle was built by George Hearst, a wealthy miner and Julia Morgan, an architect. The main house of the castle and three guest houses feature a Mediterranean Revival Style. The imposing towers of the main house were inspired by Spanish Cathedral.
Hearst Castle Rooms
If you visit the castle for the first time, it is advisable to take grand rooms tour. The assembly room in this mansion is huge and beautiful. The walls of this room are lined with walnut paneling and lively tapestries that dated back to 16th century. You can see bronze sculptures placed at the large tables. Poker table, jigsaw puzzles and luxurious overstuffed chairs can also be seen in the Assembly Room. Refectory is the splendid dining room, where you can enjoy viewing the tall windows, shining silver candlesticks and bright silk banners. Billiard room is an elegant game room, which is decorated with various game themes, like bullfighting and hunting.
Hearst Castle Suites
Doge’s suite in the castle was designed in the style of Doge’s Palace in Venice. This lavishly decorated suite has two bedrooms and a private sitting room, which were allocated to special guests of Mr. Hearst. You can see beautifully painted antique ceiling here. The Gothic Suite has the collection of paintings, textiles, statues and metal works. Library in the castle has a collection of 150 ancient Greek vases, which are 200 years old and many other precious objects.
Hearst Castle Gardens
The gardens of Hearst Castle are spectacular. They were designed by combining Italian and Spanish garden designs. You can enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains and coastline from here.
