Yungas Road in Bolivia is known as the Death Road due to extremely bad driving conditions. The road was built by convicts in 1932 during Chaco War (between Bolivia and Paraguay) and earned the title of “World’s most dangerous road” in 1995. This amazing 43 mile stretch from La Paz descends into the Amazon Rainforest. While vehicles in rest of Bolivia drive on the right vehicles on the death road drive on the left to increase visibility and make passing easier.
Death Road Accidents
In 1983, a bus accident killed more than 100 passengers and in 1994 about 25 vehicles went over the edge. One of the tour companies in Bolivia says 18 cyclists have been killed so far but there are no official records for the number of deaths.
