Corbett National Park is one of the oldest national parks in India and is named after Jim Corbett who played a critical role in establishing the park. It is basically a protected area for the endangered Bengal Tigers, which is one of the main objectives of the Project Tiger.

Jim Corbett was a hunter who later became a wildlife conservationist. Jim knew the reserve area of the park very well and hence provided assistance in ensuring the animals were protected and it was during this time that hunting was not allowed in the area except for some timber cutting activities for domestic purposes. Soon after the establishment of the park, rule for prohibition of killing or capturing animals was passed.

The main highlight of the park is the endangered Bengal tigers. Bengal tigers cannot be easily spotted since the park is camouflaged with a variety of shrubs.

How to get to Corbett National Park

Best time to visit Corbett National Park is between November and June; tourists will need a permit to enter the national park and the permits are issued at the entry gates. Nearest airport is in Phoolbagh, Pantnagar, which is about 50 kms from the national park and the nearest International Airport is in Delhi at about 300 kms from the national park. You could also drive to the national park from Ramnagar, which is 50 kms from the national park.
