Catarata del Gocta, Peru
Ranked #5 in Highest waterfalls in the World. Catarata del Gocta in Peru is not just one of the highest waterfalls in the world, its also one of the most recently discovered. Though well known to the locals in the region, it was not until 2005 that Catarata del Gocta was discovered by the world when a German explorer came across it. In 2006 it was measured that Catarata del Gocta is 2,530 ft high. For those planning to visit, the nearest town is The Chachapoyas. The town is located at an altitude of 7657 ft and the waterfall goes much higher. On cloudy days you cannot see Catarata del Gocta’s summit.
Best Time to visit is summer which is May through September. You trek to see the falls is much easier than in the rainy or colder months, though there will be less water in the falls.
