The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is another name for Blue Mosque that took seven years to construct, completing in 1616. The mosque still has its initial religious functions, but it has also become one of the main tourist attractions in Istanbul. Both the exterior and interior of the mosque is truly impressive.
Blue Mosque Interior
It is known as Blue Mosque due to the blue tiles that dress the interior’s walls. Also inside are 260 windows which were once covered with stained glass from the seventeenth century. With one main dome, eight additional domes, and six minarets, this mosque beautifully fills up the skyline. If you decide to visit, there is a main entrance and then there is another entrance for those who are not worshipping but are there only to observe and sight-see. There is no fee applied for the entry in the Blue Mosque so it is a must even for the low-budget travelers.
