Bamboo Forest in Maui

The most underrated attraction of Maui. You have to see it to believe it!

Hana is about 50 miles from Kahului Airport. Secluded from the rest of the island Hana is a paradise on Maui Island. You will find Bamboo forest along the Pipiwai trail to the Waimoku Falls. Pipiwai trail is one of the best trails for hikes. This 4 mile round trip to the Waimoku falls and a walkway trip through dense bamboo forest is absolutely breathtaking. Along the way you will see many excellent waterfalls. Bamboo forest is spectacular and is a photographer’s delight.

For those who want to hike to an absolutely spectacular waterfall, the Waimoku falls, drive to Haleakala National Park, which is about 10 miles from Hana town. You will have to park your car at the national park parking lot and get to the trailhead, which is just across the park. Bamboo forest is about 1 mile away from the trailhead. The forest is the best part of the hike.

What to pack for Bamboo Forest Hike

The hike can get slippery so wear sturdy water tolerant shoes. As for clothes wear swim wear so that you can take a dip or two in the pools you come across on your hike. If you plan to take a camera carry water-proof camera or bring a water-tight plastic bag for the camera. Carry one or 2 towels with you and don’t forget to eat well before you start the hike.
